Trygve Cumpston was born in Des Moines, Iowa and trained at the School of Classical Ballet and Dance in Des Moines, Iowa, Orlando Ballet School in Florida and San Francisco Ballet School in California. Trygve joined The National Ballet of Canada as an RBC Apprentice in 2012 and became a member of the Corps de Ballet in 2013.
Most recently, Trygve made his debut as Duchess in Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and the title role in the North American premiere of Carlos Acosta’s Don Quixote. Trygve has danced such roles as Benno in Swan Lake and L'Allumeur in Le Petit Prince. His repertoire includes The Sleeping Beauty, Romeo and Juliet, Giselle, The Nutcracker, Cinderella, Onegin, The Winter’s Tale, Nijinsky, Ainna Karenina, Pinocchio, A Streetcar Named Desire, MADDADDAM, Emma Bovary, Manon, La Sylphide, The Dream, The Four Seasons, Serenade, The Concert, Diamonds, Allegro Brillante, Opus 19/The Dreamer, Approximate Sonata 2016, Piano Concerto #1, Angels’ Atlas, Suite en Blanc, Symphony in C, Concerto, Elite Syncopations, Paz de la Jolla, Frame by Frame, Being and Nothingness, Night, Crepuscular and On Solid Ground.
In 2022, Trygve received the David Tory Award.
